Dare to Dream

Good morning

Dreaming is a part of life. We spend a lot of time dreaming about what we might do; who we might become; where we would like to go on vacation; the home we would like to have; the children we will bear; the grandchildren who will fill our lives; the things we might do to leave our mark on the world; what we will do in our retirement and the list goes on. Recently I read the famous speech by Martin Luther King Jr “I have a Dream” and in preparing the Good Friday service Chris and I wrote a piece called “Jesus Dream”. Dreams are the stuff that can empower us and inspire us to grow and move and be. In fact, I believe, they are needed to shape and form our lives and they give us purpose and direction.

Donal Harrington and Julie Kavanaugh in their book “Prayers for Parish Groups” have written a piece called “Dream God’s Dream”

And the Lord God said..
I myself will dream a dream with you. Good dreams come from me, you know
My dreams seem impossible, not too practical
Not for the cautious man or woman
A little risky sometimes. A little brash perhaps
Some of my friends prefer to rest more comfortably, In sounder sleep ,with visionless eyes
But from those who share my dreams I ask a little patience, a little humour
Some small courage and a listening heart
I will do the rest
Then they will risk and wonder at their daring
Run and marvel at their speed
Build and stand in awe at the beauty of their building
You will meet me often as you work
In your companions who share your risk
In your friends, who believe in you enough to lend their own dreams
Their own hands. Their own hearts
To your building
In the people who will find your doorway, stay awhile and walk away
Knowing they too can find a dream.
There will be sun-filled days and sometimes it will rain
A little variety!
Both come from me
So come now, be content
It is my dream that you dream
My house you build
My caring you witness
My love you share

So today I pray that we will dream. When we dare to dream are we able to see things differently and only then are we are inspired and empowered to make a difference in the world. May we risk, have courage and listening heart, build, witness and share.

Blessings
Valerie
